No don’t just skip this just because it says BOWLS. Read on because it may be of interest to you or your friends. Cornard Bowls Club is located in the recreation ground next to the Stevenson Centre and we have been there over forty five years. It is a small but friendly club catering for all types of bowlers, from beginners to national champions, from 13 year old to 80 plus. Coaching for beginners (and improvers) is given at no charge by qualified county coaches.
Currently we have national champions, several county champions and only recently said goodbye to a young lad who has had to move away for his job. He began bowling at the club when he was 13 years old and has recently had a trial for the England Under 25 team. If you start young enough you can go all the way to the top! The club competes successfully in three leagues, but also encourages 'social' bowling for those not quite so competitive players. We have an active senior citizens section that operates as 'a club within the club'.
Operating costs are kept to a minimum (£1 per session and a session often lasts all afternoon, with tea and 'biccies' of course!). Equipment for beginners can be borrowed and we have good contacts for buying your own.
The club plays outdoors (Lawn Bowls) from the end of April to the end of September (weather permitting) and carpet Bowls on a Monday and Wednesday afternoon and on Friday evening during the winter. We enjoy an excellent clubhouse where we hold quizzes, race nights etc in the winter months as well as fun-days in the summer. Basically, we enjoy ourselves, so come and join us.
