Upbeat - Heart Support Group

Page updated - 16 January 2008

Upbeat’ is a self help support group, set up by ex-cardiac patients in 1995 to provide exercise, social and health educational activities for those who have suffered heart attacks or other heart problems.

It encourages and supports patients and importantly, their carers to get back to leading as normal life as possible. Two exercise sessions (circuits and suitable aerobics), supervised by qualified instructors and cardiac advisors are held weekly at Long Melford Old School Community Centre on Tuesday mornings from 9.14am to 12.30pm. At the same time, members may drop in for a coffee and a chat or to discuss a heart related problem with our resident cardiac nurse. We have four automated portable defibrillators, one of which is taken to all events and can be used by our trained personnel.

It is a lively group attending on a Tuesday morning and if you would like to know how we can perhaps help you then please drop in – you will be very welcome. Further sessions are held at Bury St Edmunds on Monday & Wednesday mornings. Our total current membership in West Suffolk stands at over 700.

Regular social events are held, which are varied and prove very popular. These include talks, concerts, theatre visits and day trips. Details of social events and further information are on the Upbeat Website or via our twice yearly Magazine, a copy of which may be obtained on request.

Upbeat is a Registered Charity, Number 1087415. It is self supporting and funded  by our own fund raising activities and by donations.
