Royal British Legion - Sudbury

Most people seem to believe that all we do is collect money during November for the Poppy Appeal fund, arrange the Festival of Remembrance and the Parade at the Whitehall on the Sunday in all the Towns and Villages through out the United Kingdom. This can be said to be the ‘high visibility’ part of The Royal British Legion work.

The main part of the work of The Royal British Legion is the help given to those former service people, and their dependants, that through service to King, Queen and Country may have fallen on hard times. You don’t have to be a member of the legion to qualify for help, just be able to show that you served at some time in one of the armed services.

The Branch Welfare Officer is more than keen to help with problems and he has the support of the County Field Officer. I will not promise that we can sort out all problems but will have a very good try at doing it. The Royal British Legion has three Convalescent Homes and seven Residential Homes, the Legion Small Business Advisory Service can help if you wish to set up a small business and the Legion’s Pension Department can give free expert advice to identify and justify claims for war pensions.

Currently the Sudbury Branch has a membership of over 130 and we always welcome new members. You don’t have to have been a service person to qualify for membership. Anyone can join  and we have several non-military members in the Sudbury Branch. They are very much appreciated for their very valuable contribution to the running of the Branch and without them we would have very great difficulty in keeping going. We meet on the second Tuesday of the month at the Northcroft Social Club in Sudbury (nearly opposite St. Gregory's church) at 7.00pm for 7.30pm.

The Sudbury Branch is very successful and currently holds the Suffolk County Large Branch Efficiency Trophy which we have now held  for five consecutive years including one year when we also achieved the National efficiency trophy, the Haig Cup.
