National Asthma Campaign |
Page updated - 27 July 2010 |
Formed in 1990, combining The Asthma Research Council and the Asthma Society the National Asthma Campaign embraces research, fundraising, information and help to people with asthma and in recent years a telephone helpline has been started. This is answered by trained asthma nurses based in London with the calls charged at the local rate. A children's holiday project, known as PEAK holidays, has proved very popular. There are five different centres in the British Isles with many helpers and includes doctors and nurses so children are well looked after and parents can relax knowing their children are safe and having a great time. The true cost of these holidays is well over £300 a week, but there is a minimum payment of £50 and further payment is assessed on income. Around 2000 people a year die from a severe asthma attack. Medication and knowledge of the illness are key issues and the National Asthma Campaign hope that one day we see a world free from asthma. For further information please contact me by telephone on 01206 262013, the Helpline on 0845 7010203 or the National Asthma Campaign on 0207 2262260.
