New Library Location
On
Monday 26 January 2009, Great Cornard Library re-opened in its new
improved location on Great Cornard Upper School Campus, adjacent to the
Leisure Centre & Coffee Shop and also a new phone number, (01787)
315195.
We
have a number of different activities happening in the Library for
people of ALL AGES, including young children and older people. We
have Storytime on Thursday from 2pm to 2.30pm for the 2 to 4 year
olds and Top Time on Tuesday from 10am to 11.00am. Top Time is
a programme of activities aimed at older people and their family carers.
Apart from just being a friendly place to drop in and have a chat over a
cup of tea and a biscuit, there will be a number of activities for you
try.
bookstart
- During term time we run bookstart sessions for pre-school children?
These very popular sessions are great fun for children and their carers
and really help to develop language skills and give children a love of
reading. bookstart sessions are on:
Mondays from 10:15am –
TotRock - music and songs for toddlers
Tuesdays from 2pm– Babybounce -
songs and nursery rhymes
Thursdays from 2pm -
Storytime - Stories for
pre-school children.
Activities at Great
Cornard Library - We hold children’s craft sessions every
Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 3pm with a different theme each week.
In addition we have craft activity days during the school holidays.
Reading Challenge - During the
school holidays this year we had 179 children who took up the reading
challange. This is a fantastic response.
Sunday Staff are here to help - As
our regular users will know we encourage the use of our self service
machines on a Sunday so that we can run activities in the library.
However our Sunday staff are, of course, always happy to help. Whether
you need help finding a book, some local information or help with
homework just ask a member of staff wearing a purple top! We have a Book
Group, we meet on the last Sunday of every month, 10:30am to 11:30am –
why not join us!
It’s free! - Tell your friends and
family it’s free to join the library and everyone is welcome.
With a library card you can borrow up to 20 books for free?
Toptime - Every Tuesday morning from
10.00am to 11.00am we hold our Toptime group. This is a weekly
activity group for older people and carers. Fancy popping along and
finding out about your local area, playing scrabble or doing some
armchair aerobics?
UKOnline - We run free introductory
computer courses throughout the week – just ask for details.
You can also borrow CDs, DVDs,
Wii and DS games and spoken word such as story cassettes
for a small charge – ask our staff for details. You can use the
Internet for free in every library too. Our computer system
means that you can book in advance to surf the net or just pop in and
see if a PC is free.
The library is a great place for private study and there is
always a member of staff available to help. Refreshments are available
in the adjoining sports centre when it is open – what more could you
want!
For further details, either visit the library or give us a call on
(01787) 315195.
Please
come, have a look around and make use of our facilities!
