August 2011

This time my report may shock you; it is full of positives!!!!!  Now that’s a word we don’t often hear around these parts.

We have had a few scary mornings at the Stevenson Centre, but that was down to the school leavers and I expected that - but overall not too bad. I would like to thank my resident helpers Alan Liskuss and Eric (the vet) Taylor, for all their help - especially the litter picking duties. There might be an orange for you both at Christmas - if you’re lucky!  Keep up the good work.

Blackhouse Lane and the allotment car park - all ok - cleaned and checked on a daily basis. Another thanks goes to Colin, who seems to do all jobs at Cornard Dynamos and always gets his lads to clear up after games and events.

On a slightly negative note, unfortunately, we are running out of dog-poo bags - which is good, because it means lots of you are using them, but we are now going to start charging for them. They are now available from the Town Hall for 50 pence for a bag of fifty. I am really sorry about that, but it’s out of my hands.

We have had some graffiti artists in and around the Cornard area and had some offensive words on the Middle School walls. We put our high-pressure jet washer (we call chuggy) to good use. We were also called out to Glemsford a few weeks ago and cleaned the walls of their Parish Council building. The machine is now being used on a regular basis.

During July 2011 I visited the Middle School last month with Acting-Sergeant Verity Pearson and PCSO Andrea Campbell to give out the prizes for the anti social behaviour competition. The winning slogan has been fixed on my van and also one of the police vehicles. We had a good response and I’m sure the pupils enjoyed and learned something from the exercise.

Well I think I have gone on enough for now. It will soon be Christmas! Doesn’t time fly! Enjoy the rest of the summer! See you soon!

April 2011

I think Spring is the best time of the year. We have come through dark, cold nights and now we look forward to bright sunny long days and every where looks better, the grass is being cut and the buds are coming through. Lets see if we can keep things looking nice eg. no litter and especially no dog fouling. Come on - I’m sure we can make a difference. I know I’m not the only one who thinks this way.

On the dog fouling situation - thanks to the person who ripped all the dog fouling signs that I put up in Wells Hall Road a couple of weeks ago. The problem has been very bad there recently and I have spoken to lots of mothers with children at the playgroup and schools and I am doing my best to eradicate the problem. These ‘anti picking up your dog poo’ people obviously haven’t got a clue regarding the dangers that lie in the poo.

The new exercise area is now up and running in the country park. Although I have had some negative feedback on my travels to the extent of having the lock cut at the allotment car park! In my opinion I can’t see a problem. At least people of all ages can have a try, perhaps the dog walkers can put their dogs through the course! The country park is there for all to enjoy. We had a good turnout at the SNT (Safer Neighbourhood Team) public meeting at the Stevenson Centre in February. Lots of question were put to the partners, dog fouling being one of the main gripes.

A letter was sent by a lady at the meeting aimed at me, regarding a dog fouling outside, while the meeting was in progress. The dog in question was actually having a wee! so I hope that answers the question. I’m yet to catch anyone’s dog fouling to date but the time will come I’m certain of that.

Well to finish on a happier note on 30 April 2011 we are celebrating the Royal Wedding at the Stevenson Centre at 1pm through till 7pm. We have lots of things going on - too much to mention, and I will be there so you can come and have a chat. Lets all be there and celebrate something that we should be proud of!

Hope to see you there.

February 2011

On my travels, as Community Warden, I meet lots of people. The majority greet & trust me and think I’m doing an OK job, which is fair comment. I think that as well and want the public to see me in that way. After all, in this climate, I’m there to be ‘shot at’ so I have to be extra careful whenever I’m out there. The point I am trying to make is that I am working to the best of my ability on behalf of the public and have your interest at heart. OK, now that’s off my chest, let’s get on with the moaning.

We are still having problems in, and around, the Stevenson Centre, mainly youths drinking and making a nuisance of themselves, being rowdy and littering the area. This all comes under the guise of ‘anti social behaviour’. At the recent public SNT (Safer Neighbourhood Team) meeting at Sudbury Police Station, the Stevenson Centre was top of the agenda and we are all working together to stamp out the antisocial behaviour.

To follow up, Sudbury Town Council and Cornard Parish Councils are launching a competition with schools in the area, the theme being anti social behaviour. Pupils will have the chance to design a logo that will be on the Community Warden’s van and a Police vehicle for the year and prizes will be given to the winning entries. The launch date is on 28 February 2011 onwards, but we will be visiting the schools to explain.

My other pet hate is dog fouling and I am sad to say it seems to be getting worse. The same responsible people are picking up, but there are still lots of you out there that aren’t!  Worst areas footpath near Pot Kiln School - disgusting! - where children walk to school I can’t believe some of you would do this – shame on you!  Also, the Stevenson Centre is very bad since we had the snow - I don’t know why!  There are other areas but I could go on forever and you wouldn’t like that. So please,  please!  be responsible and pick up! Don’t be scared, we all know it makes sense. We have the facilities, dog bins, so let’s use them. You are paying for them!

I will finish on a happy note!  Once again we had a lovely Christmas Party at the Stevenson Centre on 11 December 2010. Thanks to all those ‘Cornardians’ that came. I really enjoyed myself, as you may know, I like dressing up in red!  Also, a special thanks once again must go to the pupils of Cornard Middle school for their enthusiasm and help in serving the refreshments and not forgetting their wonderful teacher  - who’s name escapes me at the moment, but you know who you are!

I would like to say a special thanks to Mr Liskuss and Mr Taylor for helping out with the litter picking on the Rec.

There was some flytipping in the car park near the allotments. Having taken photos, met with Mark Williamson (Babergh District Council) and given a full statement this has led to a successful conclusion. [Another success for the Community Warden – Ed.]

Final plea; Please do not throw your dog-poo bags around the Country Park, please take them home or put in bins provided.

See you in the next edition and thanks for your continued support.
